One of my hobbies is building and running outdoor web cameras at various properties in England and Finland.
The number of cameras I've setup has grown over time. It all started with Tammisalo Cam 1 back in January 2006
so that I could look at the snow levels while I was in the UK.

The Tammisalo and Vuosaari webcams are in the eastern suburbs of Finland's capital city, Helsinki. The Vuosaari cameras
show the views from the tallest building in Finland. The Ruka web cameras are on the hillside of a popular skiing resort in
Lapland, northern Finland. The Chalfont webcams are in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire, UK.

The cameras on this page only update every few hours during the day.
Clicking a cam loads a larger version. Also, check out the time lapse videos
further down the page. You can also view the Ruka Webcams and
Vuosaari Webcams on their own pages.

For more detailed information on how they are set up please see the technical details
at the bottom.

Everyday the webcam images are archived and over time I'll be adding a few time lapse videos to this page.
You can see a year in 35 seconds from the Tammisalo and Chalfont cams by clicking on the thumbnails below.
More coming soon.

At each of the four locations (Chalfont St Giles, Tammisalo, Vuosaari, and Ruka) I have a cheap and cheerful network video server,
the Aviosys IP9100A. These video servers allow you to plug in up to four standard analogue PAL (or NTSC) CCTV cameras
per unit and broadcast them directly on the Internet without a PC. The exception is Vuosaari Cam 1 which is an
Axis 207MW web cam with built in server and produces slightly higher resolution images. The Chalfont, Ruka and Tammisalo
video servers are connected to standard home ADSL lines and the Vuosaari cameras are on a high speed fibre connection.

A remote web server at a data centre in London then collects daily images from the four locations using a couple of home made PHP and
bash shell scripts, stores them for presentation on this web site, and archives them for collection later by me to
compile the time lapse videos.

More recently I also wrote an automated script to show the last 24 hours
of "action" on Vuosaari Cam 1. It can produce some nice sequences at times.
