  Timo's WebCams

OK, before we go any further I should warn you these aren't the most exciting webcams in the world. They only update three times a day at approximately 10:00, 13:00 and 16:00 local time (Finland is +2 hours GMT/BST). The Ruka and Vuosaari cams also update at 07:00 and 20:00. All the cameras are owned and operated by me.

The Chalfont Cams are in Chalfont St Giles, Bucks, UK. The Tammisalo and Vuosaari Cams are in Helsinki, Finland, and the Ruka Cams are in northern Finland. Clicking a cam loads a larger version. Also, check out the time lapse videos further down the page.

For information on how they are set up please see the technical details at the bottom.

  Time Lapse Videos

Everyday the webcam images are archived and over time I'll be adding a few time lapse videos to this page. You can see a year in 35 seconds from the Tammisalo and Chalfont cams by clicking on the thumbnails below. More to be added over time.

  Technical Info

At each of the four locations (Chalfont St Giles, Tammisalo, Vuosaari, and Ruka) I have a cheap and cheerful video server, the Aviosys IP Video 9100A. These video servers allow you to plug in up to four standard analog home CCTV cameras per unit and broadcast them on the Internet in M-JPEG format without a PC constantly running. In Vuosaari Cam 1 is an Axis 207 web cam. The Chalfont and Tammisalo video servers are connected to a home ADSL lines, the Ruka server is connected to Digita's @450 Flash-OFDM wireless network and the Vuosaari cameras are on a high speed fibre connection.

A remote web server in London then collects daily images from the three locations, stores them for presentation on this web site and archives them for collection later by me to compile the time lapse videos.
